The Monster
The clunking of a horse as it runs catches my attention quicker than a cheetah running after its prey. Most of my friends have alarm clocks, but not me. My alarm is the herd of horses running through our unfenced fields every morning. All I have to do is look out my window to see the beauty of the wild horses. I’ve never owned a horse but, this was good enough. There like my own, their everything I dream of. Every morning the herd leader will run up to the front of the herd and rear up as his silky coat glazes in the rise of the sun. One of my favorite mares is due to a baby foal any day now, but I keep a distance so I do not threaten the herd to running into something dangerous, I will let her naturally give birth.
Is today the day? Will she give birth today? She has given me many signs of having her foal she’s not eating, she is keeping a far distance between the other horses, and finally she has left the herd to go give birth. I have a good view of her from my window as I watch her lay down as gently as she can, and I wait.
